Trump Rejects Iranian Seven-Day Proposal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump has rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, a decision first carried in a Wall Street Journal report and subsequently confirmed by Trump himself in public remarks, according to reporting collected up to 1500Z on 26 September. Iran's foreign minister had offered to reopen the waterway within seven days if Washington accepted the plan, and Tehran has since said the choice now "rests with the United States." No text of the proposal and no official US or Iranian statement document has been observed directly.
NOT ESTABLISHED
- No text, terms or timeline of the Iranian seven-day proposal has been observed beyond the seven-day reopening figure.
- No released official US or Iranian statement document has been observed; Trump's confirmation is known only through news reporting of his remarks.
- The claim that Trump expects bombing to resume after the US midterms traces to a single underlying Wall Street Journal report, not to independent reporting, and is not corroborated by any official source.
- Current status of the Strait of Hormuz \u2014 traffic, closure enforcement, or shipping conditions \u2014 is not addressed in any observation.
- No imagery, vessel tracking or other technical observation supports any element of this report.
- Whether any channel of US-Iran talks remains open after the rejection is not established by the collected reporting.
